13 months after the thieving ****s ragged in my backdoors and cleared out all the easily consumed electronics they've been back (or at least some thieving scrotes have).

At 4:30am, Tuesday 22 July in the LS19 area of Yeadon 3 "lads" were seen out in the pouring rain with three bikes.

At 6am I found the side door to my garage ragged open and three bikes gone. There's a full description and photos in the linked PDF (http://downloads.singletraction.co.uk/bike_details.pdf), but in short:

Turner 5 Spot with Fox RP23 (PUSH'd) and Rockshox Pike 454s
Medium in blue with black rockers and silver swing arm (it's the TNT / pivot on seat stay version). Hope hoops (black Pro2 + DT 5.1 rims), silver & black Hope M4s (just before they started doing the Tech's), WTB Weirwolf and Maxxis Advantage tyres. Easton bars, stem, well worn zebra print SDG Bel Air saddle. Shimano XT HT11, triple cranks

Dialled Bikes Kobe Ti with Fox Vanilla QR15s
Ti frame in lacquered finish with yellow decals. Straight pull Hope Pro3s with DT5.1 rims, front Hope Tech M4 brake, rear mono mini (gold and black), Easton bars, Salsa Shaft post (silver), WTB Weirwolf front and (grey) Michelin MTN XTREM rear tyre, black SDG Bel Air saddle. Shimano XT cranks, double and bash (Blackspire Lite God, black). Middleburn 36T ring.

Frame No. OR3081077

Dialled Bikes Alpine with Fox TALAs 36
Purple frame (15/22) and brown forks. Pro11 (gold) with Mavic on rear and Michelin XTREM (grey) and Bulb with Sunn Singletrack and Bonty Big Earl on front. Mono Mini (gold and black) front brake with Avid Juicy 5 on rear. Probably sporting an Easton EA30 black post and union jack (on one) saddle. Double and bash (DMR Ring Thing, black). Middleburn 36T ring.

Frame No. M7120511

(or not that short, actually)

They levered off the exterior surface of the timber door frame in the top section of a stable style door to get at the mortise body. Levered this out to snap and pull back catch and bolt. In thru the top section (bottom still locked with second mortise). Used what looked like 4ft bolt croppers on the Pragmasis (9 or 11mm) chain to snip the link. Passed the three out and then road off, dropping/ditching the croppers. Used a chisel and screwdriver to rag the door.

All within a few metres of the back of my house and the kids bedrooms. No-one woke up.

Left a number of other bikes and a brand new C2W Roadrat in the yard. Luckily it didn't have pedals although they had picked up a spare pair and it looked like they might have come back for it but didn't.

Police and SOCO came round. Standard "no hope" from police, SOCO had a go but they wore wet wooly gloves.

So if anyone comes across these bikes (http://downloads.singletraction.co.uk/bike_details.pdf) I or the police at Horsforth Station, Leeds would be pleased to hear about it. If someone provides anything that leads to recovery or conviction there's something in it for them (I Have no idea what, but I'd see them right).

They aren't unique bikes but the builds are all stuff I put together over a few years out of choice bits. The hardtails might stand out a bit as there were only ever a limited number of Kobe Ti's and the Alpine is purple. The Turner has a non-spec' RP23 (PUSH'd) rather than the stock DHX 5 Air.

TBH honest I am resigned to never seeing any of them again. The insurance will cover some of the loss but there's a limit on total claimed for theft from outbuildings and it means it'll either pay an equivalent to the full suss or both of the HT's, ish. Such is life and a painful lesson.

If anyone hears or sees anything please let me know, if only to get the sort of people that think it's OK to take what isn't theirs.

timsellors@googlemail.com or chairman@singletraction.org.uk or 07766 504913

If you're in Yeadon or the general area, watch out. They might be doing the rounds.

I'll miss the Kobe the most as that bike was just wonderful. If anyone has a frame (think I had the short) and they would be willing to sell then I'd be pleased to hear from them.

If anyone knows how to set up an ebay "watch" to see if they come up then I'd welcome some tips. Bit of a numpty with that stuff.

Cheers

T

Really really feel for you buddy!!! :(

I think the best thing to ever deter these little f****s is a bullet!!

Quote:

And surely this must hint to the person who saw them that the bikes are stolen??!!

Will keep an eye out for you but also check ebay as Jungle spotted a few of their stolen parts on here, being sold in H,gate, after the break in earlier this year!

As for an Ebay watch, type in the search word ie "Kobe frame" for example, and then save the search. I think whatever comes up under that title for sale will result in you getting an email with the link, then check it out to see if its yours.

Best i can think of unless someone know anything better?

Cheers fella.

Someone has sent me some tips, so think sorted there.

Fair play I wondered why he was up at that time himself. TBH, though it's clearly dodgy now at the time who knows what we would have done in this fellas place. If he had have seen the bolt croppers, well ..........

Our road has a BW link (it's not as "countryside" as it sounds  ) at the top of it that means it's a pretty popular through route between town centre / shops etc and the estate below. I'm not looking to make too many assumptions but the estate (Henshaw) doesn't look the great.

Christ knows could have been scrotes from anywhere though.

That's really bad news Tim you must be gutted.

Unfortunately, however well you secure your stuff if somebody knows it's there and wants it they'll find a way to take it.
Getting alarmed seems to be the way to go. EDIT: And being properly insured.

Gutted for you Tim. Like Si, says, if they are determined no amount of prevention is sufficient. Bast*rds.

It would be worth keeping an eye on Yeadon BMX track too. They could be that stupid.

Simon B's right. not that this helps much Tim but my Garage is part of the house and yet I still have all bikes locked to Motorbike ground anchors and a Separate alarm on the garage... then a couple of massive bolts on top of the normal locking mech as garage doors are easy to pries open...paranoid me.. yup !

hope the police catch the scrotes

Sorry to hear that Tim
The other thing that might be worth doing, is seeing if there are any of those 2nd hand type shops in the area, the ones that are full of CB radios, golf clubs, air rifles, bikes etc etc. There's one in Shipley nr Foxes Corner (I've seen the odd nice bike there in the past), there maybe one at Greengates or elsewhere on the Yeadon side of Leeds.

Just had a call from the Yorkshire Evening Post and they'll be running an article about bike thefts in the area and mentioning these. Don't know if the reporter just found it or if someone mentioned it to them, whatever, it's all good 8)

Gutted for you Cheeky. I can't say what I really think as it might offend someone

The house that backs onto ours was broken into the other night. Straight in through the PVC conservatory door. Nicked car keys, wallets, Wii, a few other bits. The family were asleep upstairs. Young Thomas's Wii was 3 days old having got it for his birthday

Know how you feel mate, it's 'orrible.

My suggestion is get an alarm - after our burglary I went out and got a wireless alarm system, including one sensor in the garage. It's a DIY jobby, very easy to fit, and only cost a couple of hundred quid (check out Response Alarms). You can even connect it to the phone line and have it phone you if it goes off when you're away from home. Like you say, they will cut their way through anything, but a blaring alarm in the middle of the night should scare 'em off.

put one of these in the garage, the best guards there is...

http://www.maremma-sheepdogs.co.uk/dogs ... 0277-1.jpg

we used to keep them, no way anyone would ever get your bike, or indeed, come back.

Tim absolutely gutted for you :(

I will keep my eyes peeled, the KOBE should be easy to spot with the bracing on the head tube, sure if they are in the area somebody will spot them.

I had a similar thing in the past when i had tools stolen from my garrage and the insurance would only pay a limited amount, Worth noting the cellar is classed as part of your house and hence the amount is usually unlimited.

At the time i asked around and was advised by many that M&S insurance was very good especially for bikes, up to 4k per bike? from memory and they are still covered away from home (if locked i think), swapped my insurance to M&S, hopefully i will never need it!

Mine are insured with the halifax, in the house or in my van. Agreed values, confirmed by LBS.

3 bikes

All in £120 extra on the policy.

Is this good? What do you pay PJ?

Hows the leg dude?

I've just re-costed my house insurance with the halifax with them trying to get me away from m&s.

With m&s my bikes are insured for up to £4500 each without any special arrangements. For insurance with the halifax with the bikes added at market value halifax was another 12 quid a month.

Like Steve says it costs no extra, i did have specific bike insurance like you but do not need it with M&S, it really is worth a look, saved me a fair bit.

PS lots of people posting details of the value of there bikes and details of where they are stored and how they are secured on this thread , just remember this is a public forum so EVERYBODY can see it, some of you might want to edit your previous posts? 8)

Good point P.

The only clues I'm giving on the forum now are how many pieces of lead you will find embedded in various parts of your anatomy if you try and nick any of my gear.

14 - thats how many the magazine holds

on the insurance note. The lad at my work that had the Mojo nicked was NOT insured for a bike on the roof of the car. £3,500 lost. He's gutted. That'll teach him for having a focus St instead of a van to hide it in.
