Alright peoples.

Names Chris. I'm moving down to Leeds from Edinburgh this weekend coming. I've been riding for a few years at Glentress and the likes so was very happy to discover there is a biking community in Leeds and the surrounding area.

Anyway, I'd love to get involved with the trail building at Stainburn (or anywhere else for that matter). I will have most weekends and evenings free so reckon I could put quite a bit of time in if needed.

Only problem is I wont have a car till after July so was wondering if you know of anyone who would be willing to give me a lift when they're heading out?

Alternatively do you know what the local train situation is like? Is there a station within a few miles and would I be able to take the bike/shovel on if needed?

I'll be spending this weekend finding my way from flat to work and just generally sorting myself out, but after that I'll be free to come along to digs and rides etc.

Have been looking through the forums a bit and the trails and routes look great and am really looking forward to having a go on them!

Cheers,
Chris

Welcome to Yorkshire and SingletrAction country ;)

Getting to Stainburn by train can be tricky - there's a big hill in the way whether you go via the Harrogate Line and Huby, or the Wharfedale line and Menston.

Best thing to do would be to let us know roughly where in Leeds you are heading (it's a pretty big place :) ) and sort out lifts around dig day times.

Cheers Mark.

I'll be living in Harehills for now but can easily get from there to pretty much anywhere within train/bus limits. I spent two years in Leeds for college a few years back so I have a fairly good idea of the geography within the centre etc (I can find the bus and train station and the pubs).

I'll do as you say and keep an eye on the dig day posts. If I can make it you will see a post from me asking for a lift

Welcome 8)

Like Mark says, train (or even bus I think) services are pretty poor around Stainburn. There'll be a post in this section of the forum about the next dig day at Stainburn soon (planned for Sunday, 06 June) and don't be shy about asking for a lift in there. If folks can they will 8)

If you get the urge to get close then ride you don't need to bring any tools, meaning one less thing to carry. We have plenty and provide them for use by all on the day. I travel up from Yeadon (closest Station probably Guiseley) but tend to have a car full of tools, bikes and barrows plus a dog on the passenger seat, honest

After riding and chatting with Knacker and Ben at Thackley / Buck Woods Skill Spot (http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=417490&y=438990&z=120&sv=417490,438990&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=757&ax=417490&ay=438990&lm=0) last night I think we'll be up there on a couple of evenings sometime in May / June to tweak / repair / extend the pump track etc. Probably easier for you to get to from Harehills. Again, keep your eyes on the Relevant section of the forum and tools will be provided.

Cheers for the offer of help and hope to see you at one of the digs sometime soon 8)
