Yeah, what the guys said, definitely bring a bike and (like Jase) if I were you I'd ride first then dig second. Maybe it's just because we're old and knackered but riding after digging never seems to happen

Arrive and leave whenever you fancy, there's no rules and regulations, we're just happy to see folks.

We have a lot of tools and there's usually a variety on site. At the moment, as we're placing hardcore, if you have a barrow that would be great. However, it's not essential, turning up is a big enough deal, don't let tools put you off.

Work gloves and sturdy boots are worthwhile, as are something waterproof/sun proof (delete as appropriate). We'll be in the open on the hillside all day. Saying that we've had people digging in full-on XC lycra before so it's not worth getting hung up on gear.

Worth bringing a brew and some bait as there's nothing particularly close if you need it to keep you going.

The car park is here:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=42 ... 50910&lm=0

The entrance isn't that well marked but you can usually see the standard (shades of green) FE style board. It's "Norwood Edge Car Park" (IIRC).

Hope to see you there.

As a special bonus and reward for all our hard working volunteers this month not only will be handing out sachets of Fenwicks FS-1 bike cleaner and degreaser (donated by Zyro) but you will also get a sample bottle of Squirt chain lube that we have just received from the guys at www.in2dust.co.uk.

:smt038 Yay. Well done to Knacker on the scrounging front.

Should add this will be available to diggers at both Stainburn and Dalby.

If you see this Mark, could you tweak the news items for the digs to reflect the extra, super-duper offer, please?

I'm using Squirt lube on my canal commuter bike at the moment, it's very good. Super slick shifting and no messy chain oil. :smt038

Is it normally OK to leave the bikes where we're digging? I'd rather have it with me than back in the car.

Always good to have some new people to help out, the more the merrier.

If you don't make it for the start we will be working from the bottom of the hill to try finish surfacing the built section of the descent line and then fingers crossed make a start on the final section to link the new and existing trails.

I doubt anyone will read this before heading out to Stainburn in the morning, but in case anyone does...

It's 2 in the morning and I'm ill and unable to sleep (and no - alcohol is not involved!) I'm really saddened to say this but I just know I won't be well enough to come and help out tom... erm... today. I really wanted to be involved in the momentous finishing of the DL extension (and to have a quickie with Stuntmonkey's Hemlock!) Gutted :(

Keep up the good work, Ol x

Many thanks to all that came along and helped today despite the hiccups (one barrow stolen and another with a missing wheel I mean why take the wheel off!!). Thanks to Tim for dropping off another couple and Jase for swinging by PJ's an grab another.

We managed to finish surfacing the berm and the section after to link up the bottom end of the trail. Unfortunately the aggregate material we had left had a low fines content so this section isn't as finished as we may have liked.
We also did some work widening some of the lower sections and making sure enough material is down to ensure the trail wears in rather than blowing out. Unfortunately we ran out of aggregate (hiccup no 2) so this still needs a little work in places and meant we wouldn't be able to finish today.

A start was made to dig the organic material off what will be the link section to the existing descent line and a fine job was done gathering and bringing in rock ready to be pitched which should just about see us finished.

I know people will be sick of this but despite temptation please stay off the trail and allow it time to settle so we don't have to repair it before its even finished.

Tim will be ordering 24 tonne or so of aggregate to finish off the extension and do some repair works on the climb and some parts of the descent line and fingers crossed a few new sections we have planned.

Thanks to today's trailbuliders

Not only does everyone who helped out get a ticket towards the prize draw for the Ragley Blue Pig frame but they also received a sachet of Fenwicks FS-1 bike cleaner (courtesy of zyro) and a sample bottle of the rather excellent Squirt chain lube (courtesy of in2dust.co.uk)

Thanks, I'm feeling rested after lying in bed all day and sipping fruit juice ...as opposed to downing stout (it might be a healthy tonic for that smiley, but for me, well I'm not so sure!)

Should be back out on the bike soon enough and you'll see me at the next Stainburn dig day for sure. Although it's a shame not to have finished the extension today, I'm pleased I'll be able to be there for its completion :D

I've no doubt we will get the extension finished at the next dig.

Speaking of which the next trailbuilding day will be on Sunday the 1st August we should have the EzUp in the car park and have a bit of a BBQ and pump track session after the days trailbuilding.

Certainly wont be a problem Cheeky arranged for 24tonnes of aggregate to be delivered so we could complete the extension and make repairs and alterations to the climb as the lower section is very worn and should see a lot more traffic when the extension opens.

Now I know you will all be like great more material but we still need to get it up the damn hill!! Well a few of us went to up yesterday and have moved the material up the hill and have a good 15tonne stockpiled near the bottom of the current decent line exit meaning most of the barrowing on the August dig will be flat to downhill.

While on site the guys even surfaced the last rocked section on the descent extension (this leaves only 10-15m of trail left to be built and surfaced to complete this section) and gathered some rocks ready for the last phase added more fines to the berm and a few bits we surfaced last week which needed it and even made a start making repairs to the bottom of the climb.

Really big thanks to
Knacker
Wannabrew
Jase
Moe
and Joe for taking a hour or two out of his ride to help out.
Oh and a few other guys who helped us with a little problem we had that required some brute force.

It's to be hoped you ride a bike better than you drive a skip loader;)
